Nazi Megastructures: Series 4 (5 parts)

Over five unforgettable episodes, Nazi Megastructures uncovers the hidden remains of Hitler's most ambitious Megastructures, telling the stories of the engineering geniuses that designed them and revealing how these structures sparked a technological revolution that changed warfare forever.

Part 1: Hitler's War Trains: Hitler's Railways of Death

The railways were the lifeblood of the Nazi empire. It was a vast network that spread Nazi ambition and control across Europe and beyond. Through use of drama, documentary and archive the programme reveals Hitler's personal train, unseen bunkers, massive depots, railway weapons and record-breaking engines that made up what was arguably the Nazis biggest ever megastructure: the railways. The rail networks most sinister function was to facilitate the Final Solution. Hitler and the mastermind of the Holocaust, Himmler, used the vast rail network to transport Jews to concentration camps and to their death.

Part 2: Hitler's Italian Fortress

The story of one of the Nazis' toughest structures. These defensive lines spanned the Italian peninsula, stalling the Allies for almost two years.

Capitulation: The Final Hours

May 8, 1945. While the Allied troops were parading through liberated towns to cheering crowds, the Second World War was in its final, apocalyptic hours. The weeks preceding the end of the conflict would usher in a new world. The Soviets, more powerful than ever, invaded conquered territories and terrorized survivors. The last Nazi soldiers attempted to escape their inevitable fates. Throughout a continent in ruins, the Allies, viewed as heroes, were preparing for the advent of a democratic Europe.

Using colorized archive images, some of which have never before been seen, the film immerses viewers into the intensity of these final events: from combats, which finally offered peace and freedom to oppressed people, to the best-kept diplomatic secrets. A victory, which also marked the first day of an historic confrontation: the Cold War.

Hitler's Mountain: Hidden Traces

The Obersalzberg was an ordinary Bavarian mountain until Adolf Hitler discovered it in 1923. There at the Berghof, the Nazi leader spent his time surrounded by his most faithful lieutenants and his mistress, Eva Braun. Though mostly destroyed, remnants of the vast building complex still exist.

Vienna: Empire, Dynasty and Dream ep.3

Vienna was the capital of the Habsburg dynasty and home to the Holy Roman Emperors. From here, they dominated middle Europe for nearly 1,000 years. In this series, historian Simon Sebag Montefiore describes how the Habsburgs transformed Vienna into a multi-national city of music, culture and ideas. Napoleon, Hitler, Mozart, Strauss, Freud, Stalin and Klimt all played their part.

Part 3: Habsburg Extinction

From his struggles with Napoleon III and Bismarck and the suicide of his son Rudolf, to the assassination of his beautiful wife Sisi, Emperor Franz Josef's empire and his family proved impossible to control. But while the Habsburgs headed for extinction, Vienna blossomed. As the theories of Freud and the sensuality of the secession artists like Klimt and Schiele ushered in the modern age, Hitler and Stalin stalked her streets. It was here that World War I was sparked; it was here World War II was dreamed.
